4 Reasons to Plan a Trip Today

A lot of people always want to travel and keep the thought on their minds without actually pulling the trigger and booking tickets. I’m definitely guilty of this exact behavior. I plan trips all the time in my head and sometimes even go as far as looking up flights and accommodation for the days that work for me and I still don’t book. There are a lot of reasons I believe everyone should travel at least once a year but if you already have interest in travelling, I hope I can give 4 reasons to plan a trip today.

Life is already hard enough and it is easy to be comfortable in a cycle of waking up, working and sleeping, that might make you to start losing your mind without knowing it. Whether you like the resort relaxation type of trip, hiking a snow mountain trip, exploring the city trip or anything in between, it is important to stop wishing you went on a trip and finally commit to one. These are the things I tell myself to make sure I commit to a trip.

1. Prices increase as the date approaches

If you’ve tried to go on a last-minute trip, you should be familiar with how ridiculously high fares can get. You can avoid being in this position by booking well ahead of time (between 60 & 90 days). Check out some resources to book ahead of time. When it comes to booking a trip, always remember, the earlier the better; Procrastination will do you no good.

I don’t consider trips finalized until I book a flight. Once a flight is booked, there’s almost nothing stopping me from going on that trip (mostly because I dread cancellations fees or forfeiting money spent on the ticket). The earlier things are booked, the better. Once things are booked in advance, your bank account can get a break before the trip and you can save up on spending money to use while on the trip. Check out my search engine and book flights and hotels directly!

 2. The older you get, the harder it gets

People argue that you should spend all your time while you’re young making money so that you can have money to spend when you’re older. They fail to realize that trips will be much more expensive when you’re older. The older you get, the more responsibilities you have; from mortgage to kids expenses to increased career obligations. You might not follow a traditional life path but you will become more mature over time and things like sleeping at a hostel or sharing a double bed hotel room with your friend might not be of your standard anymore. That’s all the more reason to explore the world while you’re young and can still tolerate budget travelling. You might never grow out of it but you definitely don’t want to risk waiting to find out. It’s better to take a chance NOW!

3. Life is too short, so make sure you use up your vacation days NOW!

I know some people have a hard time using their vacation days because of fear of how they would be perceived in the office. There are different ways around that and one that I always recommend is to take a trip on a 3 day weekend/public holiday. These days shouldn’t come as a surprise to you because every company has a yearly list of days that are considered paid holidays and you should check that calendar out and plan accordingly. Traveling on these holidays will be a better use of your time than having an unmemorable weekend by staying at home.

You might not have enough time and money to make international trips so often, but you can always plan ahead and be able to make a trip to another city in the country. I’ve never heard of anyone that travelled on a vacation and wished they were at work instead. You need to stop procrastinating and talking about “how you wish you travelled more” and just go online, find a date that works and lock in your ticket.

4. Have No REGRETS!!

You want to ideally look back in time and think of all the great memories you had in different places. You don’t want to be the person who just thinks of all the trips you “almost” had. Sadly, there are some trips I “almost” went on and I hate the way I feel when I think about what hindered me from going on the trip, because it’s usually something somewhat trivial. I don’t have enough money to go to all the places on my mind, but I always try to see where my wallet can take me (no matter how near). If you’ve been planning to travel for a while and somehow haven’t, you need to stop THINKING and start DOING!

Thanks so much! You’re right. Most times, you can only really be so flexible while you’re still young.

I completely agree with you. As we get settled and have a family it becomes more difficult to travel. So travel now.

These are all great tips/reminders. I am one of the ones that want to travel but am middle aged now with a long list of responsibilities. Which does make it more difficult to plan. But I have to stop procrastinating and follow through with a plan. Thanks for the reminder .

Your post makes so much sense – just get booking! I heard that when people get older, their regrets are about what they didn’t do, not about what they did do. Travelling is so amazing in opening our eyes…. thanks!
