RESOURCES

Hey! I've gathered a few resources to share with you. This page will stay updated with okeventures resources for  career and travel planning. If you have any suggestions of other things I should try, leave a comment below. I included a snippet of my search engine below, so you can book through there or go directly to the site. Don't limit yourself to only things on this page. Let this be your starting guide!

TRAVEL RESOURCES

More Flight Resources

Google flights and skyscanner are my personal favorite sites for searching flights. I use skyscanner most times (because google flights doesn't have an app and I like doing my searches on my phone). Best part about both sites is the flexibility in the search. You can search for the best dates to a destination within a particular month or just anytime in the future. In fact, you can search without even putting a destination in the search bar.

Student Universe is a hidden gem. It is for students and young adults under 26 and specializes in student travel. They have a lot of random deals, but I have found that they have deals particularly on American Airline flights. Another feature I like is the fact that you can search "flexible dates" and this shows you the cheapest flights per day on a 6 day range of the dates you put in.

I put in a lot of time into my research to find the best flight deals. I don't settle for just one search engine. I start with mine, then move on to others.

Hotel Resources

It'll be nice to always have a close friend in any city you go to - so that you won't have to spend money on accommodation. However, if you don't know anyone and you're going to be in a city for more than a weekend, you'll need a place to stay. My go to is Airbnb because it's usually more affordable than hotels. Read the reviews of a place before you book!! I personally don't book any place that's new on Airbnb or has less than 4 reviews, because the last thing I need is to travel and find out that my "Airbnb" is a scam. For beach type vacations and baecations, I prefer to book hotels and Expedia is my go to because it has a lot of hotels to choose from no matter your budget. Also, you earn points based on the number of nights you stay and amount of money you spend. The points can be redeemed for a discount on future bookings. Ultimately, I compare both websites before a making a decision.

CAREER RESOURCES

Trying to find a job is a job in it's own sense. The most underrated job search service is definitely handshake. Handshake is a university platform for recruiting students and most schools have their own Handshake site. Other schools that don't have it, use something similar. Indeed is also a common way to find out job postings. I prefer to apply directly on the company's website if I have the option to. Don't limit yourself to these search engines as there are many others out there.

RippleMatch is different from the other two as it isn't a job search engine. All you have to do is spend 10mins creating an account with your resume and that's it. You get emails when you get matched with a company (The website software uses AI and ML to match students directly with jobs).

Don't just stop at applying online. Make sure to attending networking events and career fairs. Also, make sure to utilize your LinkedIn and personal connections. Never stop applying and trust the process!
