Future Travel Destinations

I spend so much of my time thinking, dreaming and planning future trips. With all the current uncertainty, I’ve been very stressed while stuck in without any idea of what the future of travelling would look like. I know travel is not going to go back to what we’ve deemed “normal”, for a long time. I keep thinking maybe I should’ve traveled more last year. Maybe all the trips I keep pushing to the side- like my dream destination, Australia- I should’ve just done it. Regardless, I can’t lose hope. As I can’t travel now, I’m starting to think of future travel destinations that I want to go to once this is over & borders get opened up.

1. Australia

I’ve wanted to visit Australia for years but I keep putting it off for the “perfect” time. Truth be told, at this point, I need to just do it. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide are all on the list of places I want to see. There are so many things I want to do & I don’t know if I have enough vacation days to plan a trip long enough to make it across their whole country. I envision my Australia trip to be focused in the cities & not the outback because this will definitely have to be a solo trip. I know the Sydney Opera house is the #1 tourist spot there, but that will still be my first stop on my Australia Tour. The perfect time for this trip would be USA winter which is Australia summer. Can’t wait to be chilling on Bondi Beach one day.

2. Panama

I had a trip planned for panama this week. It was going to be my first vacation of the year & I was very excited. Flights were booked, Hotel was secured & PTO was booked. With the restrictions & ban on international travel, I sadly had to give in and cancel the trip. This wasn’t one of my solo trips. I was planning to travel with friends & have a relaxing vacation. Some people argue if you’re just going to chill on vacation, why go to another country? Well for me, there needs to be a balance in trips. Not every trip should be activity focused. Some trips are a personal treat & this was going to be one of them. When this is over, I want to go to Panama city, relax by the pool, go to the spa & have cocktails all day. I can’t wait.

3. South America

Before you roll your eyes that I grouped a continent into one destination, hear me out. There are a lot of different places on my mind in South America to visit & I can’t quite narrow it down. My trip to Panama was also coupled up with some days in Cartegena, Colombia. I definitely still want to visit there but I’m equally inclined to other countries. I’m currently not in my best shape but if I were, I’d love to visit Machu Picchu. Another option I’m interested in is walking down the streets of Buenos Aires. Guyana is the only official english speaking country in South America & I get a bit weary of travelling to places where I can’t speak their language. For safety reasons, my first trip will have to be a group trip & then I can decide if I feel comfortable enough to do another solo trip down there.

Have you been to South America? Let me know your recommendations of where I should visit.

4. Japan

One of my goals for 2020 is to make a trip to Asia. I seriously doubt that I will still be able to make this happen. I don’t know when/if the world will return to normal but one of my future travel destinations is Japan. Things I want to experience there include real life go-karting, visiting a Japanese Art Museum, viewing cherry blossoms, taking a Japanese cooking class, eating authentic Japanese food and so much more. I’m a bit worried about the language barrier but I’ve heard it’s ok to be in the main cities & get by with English/Translator.

5. Singapore

Along with Japan, one of my future travel destinations in Asia is Singapore. It might sound so specific but one of my goals here would be to stay at the Marina Bay Sands. This goal is comparable to wanting to stay at the Burj al Arab in Dubai(Although I think the Dubai hotel is more iconic). Besides to stay at a remarkable hotel, I want to visit Singapore to appreciate their beautiful city, fascinating airport, delicious street food, shopping malls & warm weather. My company has an office location out there so who knows, maybe I’ll have a work trip out there & use that as an opportunity to see around the city.

6. Iceland

Iceland is a random yet fascinating place. Geographically located in North America AND Europe, Iceland is not that far to get to from the east coast. To make things even easier, I always see

under $400 to Iceland. It’s not one of my future travel destinations just because it’s a close place to get to, it’s also apparently the best in gender equality. I have no plans to move there but I’m interested in seeing if travelling there will “feel different” and if there would be sexist encounters. Truth is I don’t know what the race relations are there so who knows if that will be bad enough to cover the progress they’ve made towards gender equality? If anyone has any comments on this, please let me know before I venture out to the land of fire and ice.

7. France

Anyone close to me knows I have a soft spot for Paris. Although America is home, if there’s one place in Europe I would love to live, it’s Paris. I’ve already been there this year as I crossed over into 2020 by the Eiffel Tower. However, as far as I’m concerned, I can’t get tired of going there- I was there twice last year and I still want to go again soon once this is over. Maybe my next trip to France won’t just be to Paris- I’ve also considered Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice & Strasbourg. For someone who likes to visit France, it may be surprising that I can’t speak French but I don’t think that’ll stop me from living my French lifestyle when I’m over there 🙂

8. The Maldives

This list of my future travel destinations won’t be complete without a truly relaxing vacation spot. The Maldives is a small island nation is South Asia. For me this would be the ultimate spot to head to and be pampered. It won’t come cheap at all because flights there are not at a discount and the resorts aren’t for the budget traveler. I heard Belize & Curacao are budget friendly alternatives so I might do those instead of going all out. Regardless of which beautiful island I go to for a restful, pampered vacation, I want to spend my time on that trip basking in the sun by the beach, having multiple spa days and eating delicious meals with the most beautiful sunsets in the background. I probably don’t need to go halfway across the world to get this experience but it doesn’t mean I won’t.

My favorite hobby is travelling & planning those trips. It’s been really hard to not just stay home but to also do so without any idea of what the future holds. I hope this clears up soon & people stop dying either from the virus or inability to sustain themselves without funds from jobs. It’s quite scary that the way of life we’ve come to know can be changed so drastically & so quickly. I hope people bounce back from this even stronger. I don’t know what future travel & border laws would look like but I hope I still have the opportunity to see more of the world. I’m glad I now know clearly the future travel destinations in my mind so that once there’s a clearer view of when this is over, I can go ahead and make these trips happen.

    Hi Oke,
It’s been tough not being able to travel lately huh? I feel the same! I notice number 1 on your list of future travel destinations is Australia- and you’re right there is no right time to go- just go! Being from Sydney myself I would recommend that u spend at least 2 weeks to fully explore the city and also make sure u plan a day trip to the Blue Mountains! I have been to Adelaide and Melbourne too and those places are equally beautiful.

I have a travel blog myself and if you would like some tips on trips to places like the Maldives, Singapore, Peru then check out my site

By the way, I think you should also add New Zealand and Vanuatu to your list!

    Stay safe,
    Mia x
